Consider maintenance and image for veterinary clinic exteriors

Brick used to be all the rage, but this architect says there are many great options now.

When deciding on a durable exterior for your veterinary hospital, you used to be able to choose from brick or brick.

"You want a material that looks great, but is lasting and doesn't need a lot of upkeep over the years," says HospitalDesign360 speaker Dan Chapel, AIA, NCARB.

The good news is that now there are multiple excellent choices, he says. In addition to the old standby brick, Chapel points to metal panels and a product called HardiePlank that "looks for all the world like wood," as he describes it.

And of course, the way a material looks on your building is important.

"It's the type of theme or appearance that you want your animal hospital to really project to your clients," Chapel says.
